The history is just the beginning...
Waterfalls
There are several scenic waterfalls in the
Cooktown vicinity all of which make lovely
picnic spots. Many of the waterfalls are of
major cultural significance so please respect
the
Traditional Owners’
country.
Trevethan Falls
is accessed from Mount
Amos road and plunges into an idyllic pool.
Swimming is discouraged by the Traditional
Owners in this pool but downstream there is
a succession of safe swimming holes closer to
the parking area.
Home Rule Falls
is accessed by a walking
trail from Home Rule Rainforest Lodge in
Rossville
and offers safe swimming.
Bloomfield Falls
,
Endeavour Falls
and
Isabella Falls
are also just a short drive out of
Cooktown but swimming is not advised due
to crocodiles. Access to most waterfalls will
require
4WD
.
