Botanic Gardens

The Gallop Botanic Reserve and Cooktown
Botanic Gardens feature exotic fruit trees as
well as native and exotic palms, orchids and a
huge variety of tropical species.
Wallabies are commonly seen and over
90
species of birds
have been recorded in the
Gardens. The historic
Solander Garden
has
living specimens of plants collected in
1770
by Sir Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander
while
HM Bark Endeavour
was careened and
undergoing repairs.
