mangroves, mudflats and sand dunes,
is the only collecting site of Banks
and Solander that has remained
untouched since 1770.
Quarantine Bay
Quarantine Bay is a 5km drive from Cooktown.
Turn off the Mulligan Highway to Quarantine
and Walker Bay then continue past the Golf
Course turn off. This is a pebbly beach, with
the
rainforest
covered slope of
Mt Cook
as your backdrop. (2WD access).
Archer Point
Archer Point is located about 20km south of
Cooktown and is signposted from the
Mulligan
Highway
. From the beach at low tide you can
walk out to the
reef
, but beware of crocodiles
and stingers. This is another popular kite
surfing beach. There are spectacular views from
the lighthouse of the windswept and rugged
