Cooktown History Centre
Staffed entirely by volunteers from the
Cooktown and District Historical Society the
Cooktown History Centre
showcases life
through the ages in Cooktown with award
winning displays. Mini displays within the
main display highlight the early mining, the
Cooktown Railway and the busy wharf area.
Many historical photos enhance the area along
with stories of life in times past.
The Centre also houses an
extensive archive
and research area
and a popular family history
service and database which give visitors with
early ties to Cooktown valuable insight into
earlier family life in the greater Cooktown and
Palmer River areas.
The Centre is open 9am to 1pm (except
Sunday) throughout the year with extended
hours during busy times.
