During the marlin season from September to December each year, the Lizard Island Game Fishing Club organises a unique seven day tournament for members and qualified visitors. Because of the size of the black marlin encountered in the fishery, the Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic is the only tournament worldwide that justifies the use of heavy (60kg or 130lb) tackle.

The high reputation of the tournament attracts entries from a wide range of International and Australian anglers. The membership of the Club is made up of anglers, both men and women, from many countries around the World as well as Australian residents.
